In fact being the capital city it becomes a hub for commercial activities and therefore there are many wholesale markets in the city.  One can find wholesale markets for not only usual products but also for spices, flowers, meat etc.

Okhla Mandi

Okhla Mandi (mandi meaning bazaar) is one of the biggest vegetable wholesale markets in Delhi. It was developed by DDA (Delhi Development Authority) and is called the "fruits and vegetable market sub yard".

After the development it was handed over to the Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee (APMC). The market sees farmers from all the surrounding villages, who come here to sell their produce to the retailers and to the consumers.

How to reach: Through metro one can reach the mandi by dropping off at and the nearest Kalkaji Mandir Metro station which is located on the Violet Line. You can change for the Violet Line at the Central Secretariat station. 

There are also many buses connecting Okhla to other parts of the city; some of the major buses are - No. 40, 47, 274, 400, 402, 403, 404, 405, 405A, 409, 414, 415, 422, 436, 438, 439, 451, 453, 455, 457, 458, 460, 463, 465, 465EXT, 467, 473, 473A, 473EXT, 474, 479, 493, 507, 507EXT, 724A, 724B, 894, 894A & 044.

Azadpur Mandi

Famous wholesale markets in Delhi

If you are looking for some the best local and international vegetables and fruits, Azadpur Mandi is the place to be. This wholesale market is characterized by the good variety and cheap rates and the ever present noise of the crowd.

Azadpur is situated exactly off the Grand Trunk road which makes it accessible to all the farmers from northern and eastern parts of India. The nearest metro station is the Adarsh Nagar Metro station which is on the Yellow line. Some of the bus routes for Azadpur Mandi are: 174STL, 442 and 978.

Mehrauli Market

Mehrauli is one of the seven oldest cities of Delhi and encompasses a meat market or non-veg market,  market for furniture and a wholesale market for spices, pulses and other groceries.

Near the Mehrauli bus terminus is the furniture market which is also next to the Adham Khan’s Tomb or the bul bulaiyan made by Akbar, all kinds of furniture are available here and that too at cheap rates.

The nearest Metro Station is the Qutub Minar station which is on the yellow line. Buses connecting Mehrauli are Route No. 400, 402, 403, 421,44,463, 507, 507 A, 894, 894A

Chandni Chowk

One of the oldest and most talked about markets in Delhi is Chandni Chowk. It is a wholesale market and is ideal for bulk shopping; almost all women do their trousseau shopping from Chandni Chowk especially because of its reasonable pricing. 

The best way to reach Chandni Chowk is through the metro route even if one has a vehicle it is advisable to take the metro and then later on hire a rickshaw there. Chandni Chowk is on the Yellow metro line. The market remains closed on Sundays.

Khari Baoli

Located on the west of Chandni Chowk, is the biggest spice market in Delhi known as Khari Baoli which gives you the authentic picture of the traditions and culture of the city. It is advisable to scale the market on foot, than to hire a rickshaw or a car. There are many small and big shops selling different kinds of spices and other things like herbs, cottage cheese, dry fruits etc.

Sadar Bazaar

Sadar Bazaar is situated at the end Khari Baoli and is considered the Mecca for wholesale buying. One can find plastic wares, grocery stores, female accessories, crockery and many more articles  at extremely cheap rates. Sadar Bazaar is located in the central Delhi near Chandni Chowk and Khari Baoli.

The nearest metro station is the Pulbangash metro station which is on the red line. Some of the bus routes linking Sadar Bazaar are route no. 19, 19A, 704 & 760.

Bhajanpura Market

About 3km away from North campus and 5km away from Kashmiri Gate is one of the highly populated areas of East Delhi known as Bhajanpura. Located near the Bhajanpura Chowk are the shops and markets which are divided into blocks and the streets with numbers.

 Nearest metro station is 21km away from Bhajanpura therefore it is advisable to travel by bus. Some of the bus routes connecting Bhajanpura are: 206A, 971, 239, 165, 208, 932A, 

Chawri Bazaar

Chawri Bazaar happens to be a unique wholesale market of products made of elements and alloys like copper, brass, paper etc. Utensils, statues of gods, jewelry boxes, Wedding cards are some of the things the market is famous for. 

Chawri Bazaar is located between Jama Masjid and Hauz Quazi; this place can be reached through the metro route, the nearest station is Chawri Bazaar metro station on the Yellow line towards Jahangirpuri.

Gandhinagar Textile Market

After all the subzi mandis and grocery wholesale markets it is time to discuss about the largest textile market in Delhi, Gandhinagar Textile Market. It is also considered the largest textile market in Asia.

Although the area lacks infrastructure it has uncountable shops selling all kinds of fabrics and offering all types of quality and quantity of fabrics or garments.

Gandhinagar is near Shahdra and the nearest metro station is the Seelampur Metro station on the red line. Buses can be taken till Shahdra and some of them are 280, 623 and 982.

Shankar Market

Connaught place, Janpath and Palika Bazaar are all famous for shopping however one misses the place for wholesale buying at Shankar Market which is exactly adjacent to Barakhamba Road. Fabrics, trims and accessories for garments are available here. 

There is also scope for book lovers and food lovers. Shankar market is famous for being the matching center for ladies as all types of fabric prints and colors are available here. 

Jhandewalan MarketJhandewalan market

Jhandewalan is a unique wholesale market for cycles. Everywhere your eyes go you will find a cycle on display. 

Nearest Metro station is Jhandewalan Metro station on the blue line and the fare from Rajiv Chowk. 

One can also take a bus to Jhandewalan; some of the bus routes for Jhandewalan are: 966, 966 EXT, 966B and 963.

Darya Ganj Market

A city without a wholesale market for books sounds incomplete; Delhi has many wholesale markets for books too, is Darya Ganj. Darya Ganj is situated in the Old Delhi inside the walled city of Shahjahanabad.

This place is known for three things i.e. books, food and movies. It is called the 'birth place of butter chicken' and rich 'Dal makhni'. The nearest metro station is Chandni Chowk metro station.

Nai Sarak Market

There is link road between Chandni Chowk and Chawri bazaar called Nai Sarak. This place is known for the stationery items, books, Musical instruments, saris and fabric etc. The best way to reach this place is to hire a rickshaw or auto from Chandni Chowk or Chawri Bazaar.

Ghazipur Mandi

Ghazipur Mandi is a special wholesale market because it is a wholesale market for flowers. Activity here starts early morning and if one intends to buy flowers from this market he/she will have to wake up early to make it in time. 

Apart from variety, all these flowers are available at almost one tenth of their retail prices. Ghazipur Mandi is located in the East area of Delhi and can be reached by taking a rickshaw from Anand Vihar ISBT Metro station.

Old Lajpat Nagar Market

The only option left was a wholesale market for electronic items and Delhi has a wholesale market for such items as well. This place near Chandni Chowk and is known as Old Lajpat Rai Market

The place has a shop for all kinds of electronic gadgets ranging from mobile phones to CCTV cameras or other kinds of security systems for houses and that too at reasonable rates.

Kirti Nagar Market

Kirti Nagar is popular for the furniture available for sale and happens to be Asia’s largest market for furniture.  Home Décor, lighting fixtures and every possible thing that comes to mind when planning to renovate or decorate a house, office or hotel are found here. Kirti Nagar is itself a metro station on the blue line and is connected by other means of transport
