India Gate

The India Gate is one of the significant national monuments located in Delhi. Qutub Minar

The Qutub Minar is the largest minar in India and is a major UNESCO heritage site in India. The tower stands at a height of 72.5 meters tall and is made of red sandstone and marble. The minar has many Arabic inscriptions and verses from the Quran. The Qutub Minar was built by Qutub-ud-din Aibak in the year 1192 and was completed by Iltutmish.

Red Fort

The Red Fort is a significant 17th century historical monument of India. It was constructed by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan and was the residence of the Mughal emperors during their rule. During the time when Shah Jahan shifted his capital from Agra to Delhi, the Red Fort served as a capital fort. The fort is located alongside the Yamuna River and was declared a UNESCO Heritage Site in the year 2007.

Humayun’s Tomb

The Humayun’s Tomb is the tomb of Mughal Emperor Humayun and was specially made by his first wife Bega Begum (Haji Begum). It was built in the year 1569-70 and is the first garden tomb in India. The tomb was declared an UNESCO Heritage Site in the year 1993. The tomb includes several structures like the Chor Bagh Garden and the Barber’s Tomb. The tomb houses the tombs of emperor Humayun, graves of his wife Hamida Begum, his great grandson Dara Shikoh along with several other Mughal emperors.

The gardens are a serene retreat from the usual din and hustle and many joggers, walkers and tourist visit this park.

Akshardham

The Akshardham is a Hindu temple in Delhi and depicts the traditional Indian and Hindu culture. The temple was developed by Pramukh Swami Maharaj, the spiritual head of the Bochasanwasi Shri Akhshar Purushottam Swaninarayan Sanstha. The temple is one of the important religious Delhi one day sightseeing spots and attracts around 70 percent of the total tourist population visiting Delhi.
 
The temple has vast landscaped gardens crafted in beautiful designs, a musical fountain depicting the message of the Upanishads and also holds exhibitions on incidents of the life of Swaminarayan and India history. There is also an AARSH (Akshardham Center for Applied Research in Social Harmony) Center for tourists.

Jama Masjid

The courtyard of the mosque is huge and can hold up to 25000 worshippers. The mosque has several structures and minarets including prayer halls for the worshippers. There is also an antique copy of the Quran written on deer skin.

Laxminarayan Temple 

The Laxminarayan Temple or the Birla Temple is one of the major religious attractions of Delhi and witnesses many devotees during the festivals of Janmasthami and Diwali.  The term Laxminarayan refers to Lord Vishnu, also known as Narayan and his consort Lakshmi.  The temple was inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi in the year 1939 and also has temple structures dedicated to Lord Shiva, Krishna and Buddha. The temple has many shrines, gardens and a Geeeta Bhawan especially for discourses.

Gandhi Smriti 

The Gandhi Smriti is a museum situated in Tees January Road in Delhi, It is dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, and is the location where Mahatma Gandhi spent his last 144 days of his life and was assassinated on 30th January 1948. The Gandhi Smriti has a museum which houses many articles related to Gandhi’s life and death. Tourists can also view the spot where he was assassinated known as the Martyrs Column. The Gandhi Smriti was originally the house of the Birla family, India’s business tycoons, and was formerly known as the Birla House.
