Rajghat is one of the most popular memorials of the national capital, New Delhi. Rajghat Delhi is dedicated to the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi. Just 4 km from Janpath, Mahatma Gandhi Samadhi is one such place in Delhi that attracts foreign and international tourists alike.
Situated on the Ring Road, one can view the Yamuna River also from the Rajghat. A lot of foreign delegates are often seen paying their homage and tribute in the form of flowers and wreaths at the memorial.
An immortal flame burns eternally at one end of the structure. Since Gandhi ji was and shall always remain a renowned name, the memorial has become of prime importance especially in the recent years.
Structure of Rajghat
The structure of Rajghat comprises square platform of black marble. It is on this spot that Gandhi ji was cremated after his assassination in 1948.
The memorial was designed keeping in mind the simplicity of Gandhi ji, but from the time of its construction to now, it has gone through some significant changes.
The memorial has the words ‘Hey Ram’ which translates to “Oh God” inscribed the marble surface. It is believed that these were Gandhi ji’s last words.
There are two museums dedicated to Gandhi ji that are also located near Rajgaht. It is a great place to get in touch with history and the simple yet thoughtful philosophies of Gandhi ji. The museum primarily focuses on the philosophy of the Sarvodaya Movement through a movie. The show timings of the movie in English are from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm except on Thursdays.

Timings of Raj Ghat
The memorial is open on all days from 5:00 am to 7:30 pm, April to September and 5:30 am to 7:00 pm, October to March. There are no admission charges for national or foreign tourists. Photography and videography is allowed and visitors need not pay any extra fees for this.Things to Remember
It is mandatory for visitors to take off their footwear before paying tribute and offering flowers on the memorial platform. A commemorative ceremony is held each Friday (the day he was assassinated) at 5:30 pm and prayer sessions are a routine on Gandhi ji’s birth and death anniversary.
Visitors can donate generously in the donation boxes that are placed near the Samadhi. All the collection from the donation boxes is used for the welfare of the Harijans, one of the causes that were very close to Gandhi ji’s heart and soul.

One can hail an auto rickshaw from the station and reach the memorial in around twenty minutes. Raj Ghat is situated at a distance of about 3.5 km from the Old Delhi railway station. And the distance from IGI airport is around 21 km.
