Markets in Delhi not only consists of fashion related markets but also wholesale markets and non-fashion merchandise markets. Be it handicrafts or furniture, high-end fashion or street fashion products, Delhi has it all. Delhi boasts of both cheap markets and markets for luxury items. Though the list is endless, but to name a few one can start with the most visited markets in Delhi like Connaught Place (CP), Palika Bazaar, Janpath, Dilli Haat, Sarojini Nagar, Lajpat Nagar, Kamla Nagar, Chandni Chowk, Karol Bagh etc.

Connaught Place is one of the most important shopping markets in Delhi. CP is constructed in the form of concentric circles around a central park, along with seven radial roads originating from it and the area between these circles has been occupied by hundreds of shops. The Inner circle is divided into blocks A,B,C,D,E and F and is inhabited by renowned brands like Keventers, KFC, the bookworm, Starbucks, United Coffee House, Madras Coffee house etc. 

Similarly the outer circle has G,H,K,L,M,N and P blocks that has shops like Gola sizzlers, Pot purri Nirula, Tag Heuer, Rado, Cox & Kings, Hidesign etc. For those who want to spend less but buy chic stuff there are two markets at CP i.e. Janpath’s flea market (on radial road no1 from metro station) and Palika Bazaar (Main gate faces the central park) underground market. 

At Janpath where on one hand you can shop for apparels and accessories, on the hand at Palika bazaar one can shop for a variety of merchandise ranging from clothes, accessories to electronic and electrical items. The best and easiest way to reach CP is through the metro route (Situated at Rajiv Chowk Metro station). CP stays closed on Sundays.

Bengali Market

Bengali Market caters to foodies and is one of the upscale markets for food lovers. It is near CP next to Tansen Marg. Nathu Sweets and Bengali Sweet house are the prominent sweet shops here. 

Apart from delicious lip smacking snacks one can also find fresh flowers and fruits here. Bengali Sweets is near Mandi House metro station and the market is open on all days.
Karol Bagh in Delhi

Karol Bagh Market is houses not only brands but also traditional local shops and offers trendy, ethnic wear at reasonable prices. It consists of four famous streets which are wholesale markets namely: Ajmal Khan Road for clothing, Arya Samaj Road for second hand books, Bank Street for jewelry and Gaffar Market for cosmetics, electronics accessories etc. Nearest metro station is the blue line Karol Bagh Metro station. It remains closed on Mondays

Chandni Chowk

One of the oldest and most talked about markets in Delhi is Chandni Chowk. AChandni Chowk in Delhi very interesting fact about Chandni Chowk is the presence of a Hindu temple, a Gurudwara, a Masjid, a church and a Jain temple on the road stretching from the Lahore Gate and the Red fort to the Fatehpuri Masjid, making it an epitome of secularism. 

Chandni Chowk happens to be a wholesale market and is ideal for bulk shopping; almost all women do their trousseau shopping from Chandni chowk especially because of its reasonable pricing. Chandni Chowk is also known for the delicious street food, some of them like Chatwallah, Bikaner sweets, Ghantewala Halwai, Haldiram’s, Natraj bhai’s bhalle, Gianiji ka falooda and the Paranthe waali gali are worth trying.

The best way to reach Chandni Chowk is through the metro route even if one has a vehicle it is advisable to take the metro and then later on hire a rickshaw there. Chandni Chowk is on the Yellow metro line and the rickshaw wallas charge you around Rs. 30-50 depending upon the distance travelled. it is closed on Sundays.

Lajpat Nagar

Lajpat Nagar has been planned into 4 parts i.e. Lajpat Nagar 1,2,3 and 4 the famous central market is located in Lajpat Nagar 3. 

The central market is divided into lanes, for example the Garam Gali famous for bridal outfits, Heena Bazaar known for the intricate and pleasing Mehndi designs. This market is better termed as high street fashion market as the prices of the merchandise are neither very cheap nor very high. Lajpat Nagar metro station is situated on Violet Metro line that one can board from Central Secretariat. It is closed on Mondays

Sarojini Nagar

Sarojini Nagar in DelhiSarojini nagar is one of the cheapest markets in Delhi as all export surplus products and seconds are available here, even branded clothes therefore are available at cheap rates do not forget to use your art of bargaining here as one can get chic and fashionable merchandise at throw away prices. 

Footwear shops here at Sarojini are a major attraction along with sweet shops, vegetable mandi, kitchenware shops and household décor shops are one of the crowded places here. Sarojini nagar is surrounded by South Extension, Laxmibai nagar, Safdarjung Enclave, Chanakyapuri and Netaji Nagar.

INA is the nearest metro station and one can hire an auto which should charge you around Rs. 30 from the station. Sarojini Nagar is connected by bus routes 615, 465, 56 and 512. Like Lajpat Nagar Sarojini Nagar is also closed on Mondays.

Indian National Army market situated across Dilli Haat a.k.a INA has been recognized as the food bazaar of Delhi, be it exotic sea food, meat, vegetables, fruits or spices; you name it and you get it here at INA. Some of the rare liquor and wine along with imported stuff are also available at INA. Interestingly some of the shop keepers at INA speak other languages like French, German and Japanese.

Dilli Haat

Dilli Haat is the glorified version of traditional rural haat; however, only those craftsmen who are registered with the D.C Handicrafts are eligible to put up stalls, Kiosks or shops at Dilli Haat. Handicrafts from all over India are available here. This haat is not just a crafts bazaar but is also a food bazaar as delicious local recipes are available here. 

This is the place where one can buy souvenirs for the loved ones and for themselves. Entry fee for adults is Rs20/- and for kids it is Rs. 10/-. It is located at Shri Aurobindo Marg next to INA nearly at the heart of South Delhi. One should visit this place in the evening as you can enjoy the whole village setup glittering with lights.

The nearest metro for Dilli Haat is INA metro station which is on the yellow line; one can also take the red line and the nearest station would be Netaji Subhash Place metro station.

Kamla Nagar

Some of the hangout zones are Bungalow road, Bada Gol chakkar, Chota Gol chakkar, Kohlapur road etc. Apart from street fashion and high street fashion Kamla Nagar has Offices of many publishing houses and is known for certain food items like chole bhature of Chache Di Hatti , lassi of Bille Di Hatti, kesar rabri of Gopal Sweets Corner, dhokla of Manohar Bikaneri. 

Nearest stations are Vishwa Vidyalaya & GTB Nagar and can Hire a rickshaw or a shared electric rickshaw which will charge Rs. 20/-. One can also take a bus for Kamla Nagar some of the bus routes that connect Kamla Nagar are: 912, 108, and 234. This place is closed on Mondays.

Tibetan Market

Tibetan market in DelhiTibetan Market normally referred as the Monastery market is not only unique because of the articles it has on sale but also because of its location as it is situated under the ISBT-Shahdara Link Flyover. And again one can easily haggle here and get a good price for the Tibetan articles they sell. Woollen clothes, Thangka paintings, Tibetan artifacts, footwear, bags and many more categories are available here.

Nearest metro station is Vidhan Sabha after which one can take a rickshaw to reach the market in around 15 minutes. 227, 258, 192, 171, 883 and 901A buses can be boarded to reach the Tibetan Market. Like Kamla Nagar this market also remains closed on Mondays.

Yashwant Place Complex

Nearest metro station is Race Course station on the Yellow line. 610, 781, 780 or 610A can be boarded to reach Yashwant Place Complex. It remains closed Sundays

Jwala Heri Market

Jwala Heri Market is the biggest market place in west Delhi it houses a plethora of product categories like computer stores, jewelry, accessories, crockery houses and the like and is famous for its Pyaaz ki kachoris. Nearest metro stations are Paschim Vihar west metro station and Paschim Vihar East station both these stations are equidistant from the market. It remains closed on Wednesdays

Paharganj

It is a market for hardcore shoppers because of the tough shopping conditions and cheap prices. Nearest station is the New Delhi metro station on the Yellow line.

Nehru Place

Nehru place being the Silicon Valley of Delhi consists of many Information Technology firms. It is computer hardware and peripherals market and also has many computer repair shops. It sells second hand books and coffee table journals as well. It is located exactly at the Nehru Place metro station on the violet line.

Kirti NagarKirti Nagar furniture market in Delhi

Kirti Nagar is popular for the furniture available for sale and happens to be Asia’s largest market for furniture.  Home Décor, lighting fixtures and every possible thing that comes to mind when planning to renovate or decorate a house, office or hotel are found here. Kirti Nagar is itself a metro station on the blue line and is connected by other means of transport.  It is closed on Fridays.

South Extension

Graduating towards high end markets we can start with South Extension which is divided into two phases i.e. South Extension 1 and South Extension 2 on either sides of the ring road. All the designers, Couturiers and high end brands are found here. It has some really nice restaurants like Kitchen of Awadh, Daichi, Pind Balluchi, Rang De Basanti etc. Nearest Metro station is AIIMS on the yellow line one can catch an Auto rickshaw which cost about Rs. 50/- to Rs. 60/-. 507, 542, 433, 533-400 and 517-433 connect South Extension and it is closed on Mondays.

Sunder Nagar

Situated near Mathura road, Sunder Nagar is known for the antiquities, artifacts and art galleries. Nearest Metro station is Pragati Maidan. 419, 425, 411, 405A, 429, 423, 438, 274 and 403 buses routes connect Sunder Nagar. It is closed on Sundays.

Lodhi Colony

known for being the quietest residential area houses three well known markets i.e. khan market, Khanna Market and Meherchand Market. One can take a bus from the Jor Bagh metro station which is on the Yellow line. Bus routes 794, 970, 588 and 745 can be taken to reach Lodhi Colony.

Khan Market

Khan Market DelhiKhan Market, a large U shaped market with two parallel ‘U’s, happens to upscale, classy and sophisticated. Book shops, boutiques, Lifestyle stores, brands and eating joints are all available here. Many celebrities and bureaucrats are spotted here in the book stores and eating joints. The market is closed on Sundays and one can hire a rickshaw from the Khan Market metro station on the violet line which is about 10 minutes from the market. It remains closed on Sundays.

Hauz Khas

Hauz Khas market has been recognized as the ‘national capital of ethnic chic’ and is home to many designer boutiques along with India’s best fashion institute under ministry of textile. Hauz Khas village is a great place for youngsters to hang out. Nearest Metro station is Haus Khaz on the Yellow line.

Greater Kailash

GK M blockGreater Kailash is one of the posh areas in Delhi and the markets GK1 and GK2 are strictly for those who have a snobbish and luxurious take towards life and shopping, GK 1 has got M block as well as N block markets whereas GK2 has many bars, Pubs, restaurants and local shops. Nearest Metro station is the Kalkaji Mandir metro station however, people prefer going in their cars to these shopping destinations. Some of the bus routes that link GK are 534, 427, 767, 511A, 465, 534A. GK is closed on Tuesdays.

Vasant Kunj

Vasant Kunj has lately come up as the high-end luxury shopping destination because of DLF Emporio Mall, Promenade and Ambience malls, however Vasant kunj has so far been famous for the Basant Lok complex and PVR Priya cinema as well as OM bookstore. Nearest Metro Station is Chhattarpur metro station on the yellow line, one can also take an auto rickshaw from Hauz Khas metro station which may charge around Rs60/- to Rs70/-

Rajouri GardenRajouri Garden Delhi

Rajouri Garden can be visited not only for the traditional local shops but also for the new Malls that have come up in this area catering to the growing disposable incomes of the inhabitants of that area which is residence for the vivacious Sikh and Punjabi Hindus. The market is close to the Rajouri Garden metro station which is on the longest metro line i.e. the blue line. It is closed on Wednesdays.

Apart from fashion and lifestyle products there are big wholesale markets in Delhi some of them are Sadar Bazaar, Khari Baoli, Gandhinagar Market, Okhla Mandi, Ghanta Ghar, Darya Ganj, Azadpur Mandi, Chawri Bazaar, Mehrauli and Bhajan Pura.
