Eye Banks in Delhi

Pledging to donate your eyes can give sight to someone. You need to fill up an eye donation pledge form. After the death of a family member, his family is authorized to contact the nearest eye bank or family doctor for donating the dead person's eyes.

 
During eye transplantation, corneal grafting is done and donor's cornea is grafted to the recipient. The eyes should be removed within 4 to 6 hours of donor's death. In case of a body lying in mortuary, 96 hours duration is permissible depending on the condition of donor's cornea.

Anyone can pledge to donate his/her eyes. Age is not a bar. For transplantation, only the cornea or sclera is grafted or transplanted. During Corneal transplant, the opaque cornea is replaced with a clear cornea obtained from  human donor eye. The transplantation is carried out within 96 hours of preservation in the eye banks.

Dr. Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences (AIIMS) is the oldest (established in 1965) and non-profitable charitable organization in Delhi. Pledge to give the gift of sight to someone today and 'live' even after your death. Remember, lost sight can be restored by corneal transplantation in most cases.
