Delhi the capital city of India ranks higher in the list of increasing population. Migration of people from nearby places for good job opportunities and better lifestyles has been the main concerned area for the state. 
This problem has always been the major concerned area for Delhi Government and many efforts were initiated from time to time.

Finally after various intensive studies, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) came into existence in 1995 as a joint venture of Indian and Delhi Govt. 

The year 2002 brought the first edition of Metro, which was initially launched on the Red Line, and thus opening the way for Yellow line in 2004, Blue line in 2005, its branch line in 2009 with introduction of Green line, Violet Line and Airport Express Line in 2010. 

Now metro has become the life-line of Delhi peoples. Following metro lines are running presently on these routes in Delhi

The Red Line was the first line of the Metro to be opened and connects Rithala in the west to Dilshad Garden in the east, covering a distance of 25.09 kilometres (15.59 mi). It is partly elevated and partly at grade, and crosses the Yamuna River between Kashmere Gate and Shastri Park stations.

Delhi Metro Blue Line

The Blue Line was the third line of the Metro to be opened, and the first to connect areas outside Delhi. Partly overhead and partly underground, it connects Dwarka in the west with the satellite city of Noida in the east, covering a distance of 50.56 Km.

Opened in 2010, the Green Line was the first standard-gauge corridor of the Delhi Metro. The length of the complete line is 18.46 Km. An interchange with the Red line is available at Inderlok station via an integrated concourse. This line also has the country's first standard gauge maintenance depot at Mundka.

 Branch Line

Violet Line is the second standard-gauge corridor of the Delhi Metro opened in 2010. his line runs from Central Secretariat to Badarpur for a distance of 43.2 km. The first extension of this line was opened in October, 2010 from Central Secretariat to Sarita Vihar and the second section in January 2011 from Sarita Vihar to Badarpur.

The Orange Line popularly known as the Airport Express Line of Delhi Metro runs for a distance of 27.1 km from New Delhi Metro Station to Dwarka Sector 21 linking the Indira Gandhi International Airport.  Interchanges are available at IGI Airport Station for IGI Airport, at Dwarka Sector 21 station for Blue Line and at New Delhi Station for Yellow Line and New Delhi Railway Station. The Airport express line was started in February, 2011.

There are some stations in Delhi Metro line that serve as transfer stations which act as the connecting station between different lines.

Dwarka Sector 25 ECC   

Anand Vihar metro station is a part of the blue line of Delhi Metro station. The Anand Vihar metro station is a very busy station since this metro line is connected to Anand Vihar Railway and Anand Vihar ISBT Terminal. The station's location to Anand Vihar ISBT makes it an even busier metro station that provides convenient transit to different places by bus. 

Even buses to long distant cities are available from there. It is located in the eastern part of Delhi. In order to reach the Anand Vihar metro station, one has to take a ticket towards Vaishali in the Blue line from Rajiv Chowk.

Rajeev Chowk is the busiest metro station in Delhi Metro network for it is the transfer station for two Delhi Metro Stationsmajor lines: Yellow line and blue line. Serving as the station for Connaught Place in the heart of Delhi that serves as a major commercial space, Rajeev Chowk witness huge rush all throughout. 

Named after the ex Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, Rajiv Chowk has a number exits and entry passages too. For convenience of tourists, proper guides and written boards are visible in and around the station. The yellow line passing through Rajiv Chowk has its end stations at HUDA City Centre and Jahangirpuri. 

Blue Line on the other hand that passes through Rajiv Chowk has its one end at Dwarka sector 21 and then bifurcates into two divisions, one ending at Vaishali and the other ending at City Center.

Central Secretariat metro station is the transfer metro station between the yellow line and the violet line. The violet line starts at Central Secretariat and continues till Badarpur station thus leading towards the south-eastern part of Delhi.  The Central Secretariat station is also a very busy station due to the fact that it is the only connecting line between the yellow and the violet metro lines.

The Dwarka metro station is the primary line towards the west of Delhi. The Dwarka metro station is along the blue line which can be accessed from Rajiv Chowk and Kirti Nagar as well. Kirti Nagar metro station is the transfer station between green line and blue line, thus helping people to reach Dwarka from the green line. 

On the other hand, Dwarka can be reached from the yellow line and violet line from Rajeev Chowk metro station. Initially, there was only the Dwarka station and then gradually it has been expanded upto Dwarka Sector 21. Dwarka Sector 21 metro station is the connecting station with the Airport Express which is the Metro station between New Delhi metro station and Dwarka Sector 21 metro station.

The Yamuna Bank Metro station lies in the blue line of the Delhi metro route. The Yamuna Bank metro station is the transfer station between the Vaishali and Noida lines of metro route. It is at the Yamuna Bank metro station that the metro route bifurcates into two parts and moves into its respective stations endina at Vaishali and City Center.

This is most useful for a daily traveller. The minimum recharge value of a travel card is Rs. 120/- and the maximum is Rs. 1000/-. A security deposit of Rs. 50/ (refundable) has to be paid while purchasing the card and the file commuter can add on a minimum value of Rs/-50 during purchase.Subsequent recharge of the card will be of a minimum value of Rs. 120/-. The card is valid for one year.

Delhi Metro Tourist Card:

This is issued for travel within a short period of time. It can be used any number of times. The validity of this card ranges from one day to three days. The amount charged for one day is Rs. 120/- only, 

Delhi Metro Token:

The single journey tokens are available for one way journey.  Value of token depends on the distance of destination and ranges from Rs.20/ to Rs. 60/-. Token is valid only on the date of purchase.
