This place was named after Duke of Connaught, the inner circle was named as Rajiv Chowk and outer circle was named as Indira Chowk. 

It has been graded as fourth most expensive office destination in the world.
Connaught place was constructed by evacuating the area like Madhoganj, Jaisingh Pura and Raja Ka Bazar. In early days few cinemas and few restaurants were opened in Connaught place. 

The restaurants in Connaught place that were opened in plaza were Kwality, United Coffee House, and many other restaurants serving Mughlai and Continental cuisines. Wenger a famous place for pastries and home-made Swiss chocolate was established in Connaught place by a Swiss couple. This is known to be largest owned restaurant in Delhi. Other restaurants that served royalties and other people were Embassy restaurant, the Imperial hotel the first royal hotel, etc.

There are eight separate roads from Connaught inner circle leading towards Parliament street, Radial Road1 through 7. There are 12 roads from the outer Connaught circle known as Indira Chowk which leads to Janpat Market, Radial Road 1, and Palika Bazar an underground market, etc. The first Starbuck coffee house was opened in Connaught place in Hamilton House. This place has also been hosting many cultural programs, recently successfully hosted “Dilli ke Pakwaan” event on one of its street.

You may find no or less dustbins placed in this area. As Connaught place has witnessed five terrorist blasts on 13th September 2008. The dustbins were used to place the bombs in this area. The two bombs were recovered from the site, amongst which one was placed in Regal cinema in Connaught place.
