National Zoological Park

Delhi has preserved biodiversity in the National Zoological Park. The zoological park is situated between Mathura road and Purana Qila. 

At the entrance you will see Mughal Kos Minar. The red stone gate at the entrance and the path with the red Badarpur gravel is awesome.

Animals in National Zoological Park, Delhi

The visitors are allowed to walk through the lanes of the zoological park. After walking few miles you will get a divergence where one path leads to office and library and the other path leads to Zoological Park. If you are visiting this place with old parents or kids, don’t worry there are benches laid along the way.

There are shrubs and green grass all around. In this National zoological Park you get to see many species of animals, birds, and reptiles found here. The area of the park is made up of wood. There are varieties of trees on which you may see squirrels hoping around. There is a trunk labelled as White Mulberry.

This place requires at least two hours to three hours. There is a facility of trolley for those who do not wish to walk around or want to avoid Sun. These trolleys can be hired at the counter of ticket.

The Zoological park has rich fauna, you can watch Chimpanzees, Hippopotamus, Monkey, Gir Lion,  African Wild Buffalo, Zebras, etc. You can watch water animals and migratory birds too on the left side. 

Near water you may get to see Peafowl, Duck pond, Banteng, Blue-yellow Macaque,   Hyenas, Axis Deer, Fallow Deer, Hog Deer, Emu, and Jaguar. The underground reptiles found in reptile home in the same campus are King Cobra, Pythons, etc.

The Zoological Park has a rich flora too, it houses 200 varieties of trees, shrubs and plants, like bistendu, Lahura trees, yellow Alamtas, etc. There are boards which display the information about the trees, plants, etc.  There are numerous parks in the campus to visit

Next to the boundary of the Zoological park is the railway line. You may find few kiosks selling food items and cold drinks near exit and entry gate.

  • 1st April to 15th October: 9:00AM to 7:00PM
  • 16th October to 31st March: 9:30AM to 5:30PM

Domestic Video Camera: Rs.50/-
Still Camera: Free

How to reach:

One can hire auto rickshaw or opt for city bus. The nearest metro station is Pragati Maidan.
