Rajiv Gandhi State Sports Award

Taking inspiration from the Arjuna Awards which were instituted in 1961 to recognize the outstanding achievement in National sports by the Government of India, The Government of Delhi is also awarding accolades to five most prominent sports persons in different disciplines for promotion of sports in the state.

The award is known as 'Rajiv Gandhi State Sports Award' and it comes with a cash incentive of Rs. 5 lacs, a commendation and a souvenir. This award is usually announced every year on 20th of August (Birthday of late PM Rajiv Gandhi) as a symbol of respectfulness for his love towards sports.
