About Siri Fort Delhi

Siri Fort in Delhi was constructed during the rule of one of the Delhi sultanate Alauddin Khilji. Alauddin Khilji was the founder of the Khilji dynasty during the medieval period. The construction of the fort took place between the periods of 1297 to 1307.
  • The entire construction has a credit of being done by the Muslim artists which was now left with few remnants. The fort was constructed to break the invasions of the Mongols and the defeated soldiers and generals were brought to the fort and are forced to death.
  • Alauddin Khilji was not only a power ruler but was also a very great builder and Siri fort was constructed by him which served him as his administrative center. This Siri fort also acted as a defensive fortress during the time of Khilji.
  • But later few invaders who found out the magnificent fort damaged it and took away the building material to construct their own city and forts. Due to these invasions only a few walls of the strong and a beautiful fort remain as history.
  • Though every ruler took away the building material from the fort a thousand pillar palace Hazar Sutun and the Hauz Khas are the surviving buildings that are left over.
