Delhi Development Authority (DDA)

Delhi Development Authority was formed for the development of Delhi in the year 1955 under the Delhi Development Act. The city was planned by Edward Lutyens and Herbert Baker the town planners in the year 1912.  The year 1922 was a remarkable year for Delhi development as a small committee of 10-12 people was formed in the Collectorate of Delhi.

In 1947 after the Independence and division of India and Pakistan, the population of the city increased due to migration. The settlement of the huge population was a great concern for Delhi Improvement Trust and Municipality.

The committee formed by the central government led to a decision of forming a single planning and controlling authority for all areas of Delhi. This is when the Delhi Development (Provisional) Authority came into existence.

DDA was ranked 9th as a builder in the city of Delhi. DDA also played an important role in the construction work of common wealth games held in the year 2010 in New Delhi, India. DDA provides all the basic amenities like electricity, sewage disposal, water supply, etc. DDA master plans have been revised from time to time to get a good planned city and to prepare the city for future.

The Land Development department of DDA holds the responsibility of identifying the new residential area, making new constructions, at the same time maintaining the greenery of the city by developing more parks which helps Delhi to stay green and healthy. DDA is also involved in the development of commercial properties, its construction and maintenance. DDA is responsible to develop the local market, shopping complexes, etc.

DDA responsibilities also include development of sports complexes. It is responsible to provide all sports facility and develop sports complexes, play fields, gymnasium, fitness centers, etc. DDA also conducts hosts few sports events at the state level (DDA Dwaraka sports complex along with DDA Saket Sports complex).
