Football in Delhi

Apart from cricket, football is considered to be the next predominant sport in Delhi. The game of football in the country is promoted and controlled by the All India Football Federation (AIFF). The football house in Delhi was actually built under FIFA GOAL program and was officially inaugurated by FIFA chairperson, Joseph S. Blatter on April 17, 2007.

Football in Delhi is promoted and controlled by the Delhi Soccer Association (DSA). The DSA is officially affiliated to the All India Football Federation (AIFF). Delhi Soccer Association is building an attempt to encourage and modernize the game of football in the capital city and regularize it in all contexts which includes men, women of all age groups.

The major sports facility for football in Delhi is the famous Ambedkar Stadium, which features a capacity of 20,000 seats. The stadium has hosted the World cup qualifier of Indian football team against UAE in July 2012 and also Nehru Cup matches in 2007 and 2009.

Much said about the popularity of the game of football in the capital city, now is the time to talk about the reality. The game of football in the country has a long road ahead in terms of infrastructure, facilities, encouragement and common interest. As a question of fact, it is an agreeable reality that the popularity of cricket has kept the people aside from any other sports.

It is clear that the love for the game of football among Indians will overcome all obstacles very soon as the football association operating across the country is committed to the promotion and development of football.
