Rivers
Delhi is situated on the western banks of river Yamuna. Presence of Yamuna makes the soil very fertile. It is perhaps the only water body that fulfills the day to day requirements of the residents of Delhi. The cleanliness of the river is of a major concern for the government as industrial waste gets accumulated in the river. The other major sources of water include the Agra Canal, Hindu Canal and the Western Canal.
Mineral Resources
Delhi is poor in its mineral resources. Some deposits of building and road making materials, Kaolim, Quartzite rocks and China clay are found at isolated parts of the city. Kaolim is used in refractory industries while China clay is used in the manufacture of bricks and china ware. Quartzite rocks are used in the manufacture of stoneware’s and buildings.
Forest Resources
Out of a total of 1483 sq. km, 111 sq. km. is under forest cover. The forest area of Delhi is covered by the Northern Tropical Thorn Forests. These forests are covered with large trees and shrubs. Wild life sanctuaries like the Asola Bhatti wild life sanctuary protect flora and fauna.
