There have been the rapid and revolutionary changes in the field of telecommunication not only in the capital city Delhi of India, but all over the country. The telecommunication sector has risen to new heights in last three decades and has credited India to be the country with the second largest telecommunication sectors in the world.
Earlier only the government telecommunication service provider, popularly referred as BSNL or the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, was only known for providing telecom services to the citizens but the recent technological development and effective endeavors by upcoming private companies in last three decades have totally changed the scenario of telecommunication sector in India. Emergence of various private telecom companies has lead to cut throat competition among all companies and in turn is throwing great challenge in front of prevailing Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited.
Telecom sector has undergone various developments in the recent years. The introduction of pager in the late eighties and early nineties was a siren of change in telecom industry. After the successful launching of pager, mobile phones played an important role in neglecting the utilities offered by pager and as the time passed pager became a history and were successfully replaced by mobile phones which have now become an eternal part of everyone’s life.
Introduction of internet in recent years is a step ahead in development of Indian telecom industry which has pushed back the mobile’s use to certain extent . The use of internet acted as a petrol in fire. Internet facilitates the user to transfer huge date from one place to another within few minutes. All these technological development pushed back the importance of basic telephone, now people are more interested in using mobiles and internet as their rapid mode of communication.
State-owned Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) and private enterprises like Vodafone Airtel, Idea cellular, Reliance Infocomm, ,Tata Indicom, and Virgin are private operators that provide telecommunication services in Delhi and in whole country.
